First with a convo w/someone from washington state today – saying how their local PO “pretty much does whatever they want” in terms of delivering mail. I’m sharing only because it lines up w/that “HURRY UP AND MANIFEST ALREADY” dream I had showing we are truly at. the. end. and the marker in the dream was the PO was D O N E. There are approx. 31k post offices so this is a tiny amount – but given how crappy the service has been for the past few years and given how desperate I am to see CHANGE (i crave it like i do food now) – I’m sharing………..And btw – they claim “weather” is to blame. Whatever happened to Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night……………Back in the day being a Postal Carrier was an honor – as children we would talk to our carrier – sometimes follow ’em up and down the street for a bit because, you know, back then we PLAYED OUTSIDE….We engaged in convo – never had to worry about mail sitting all day never to be picked up. Today, yeah not so much. Plus today they are tracked and can’t talk for more than a moment (if you are lucky enough to have one who will talk with you). And good luck to ya for getting your mail much less the correct mail – doesn’t matter if your box is clearly marked w/your last name – or the same carrier most days.
According to the updates, over 100 post offices have just been “temporarily closed” in three different states: Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota. A total of 115 facilities are impacted.
There were 19 post offices shuttered in Nebraska, including those in cities such as Bassett and Atkinson. In South Dakota, 21 post offices were closed, including facilities in cities like Alexandria and Marion. Minnesota is facing the most closures: The USPS shut down 75 facilities in this state, which includes post offices in Sherburn and Winnebago.
I was proud, as a small child, living with my grandparents, that my grandpa was a mailman. I’ve known a few people in the 80s who took pride in their work for the PO.
Flash forward and I see the decline to where I know to avoid important things via mail when possible, etc.
